Levy Konigsberg Attorneys have now filed nearly 500 lawsuits on behalf of men and women who suffered sexual abuse as children at youth facilities run by the State, county governments, or private operators contracting with the State.

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J., Sept. 29, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Levy Konigsberg has filed 30 lawsuits this week alleging that the State of New Jersey failed to protect children from rampant sexual abuse at State-run juvenile detention centers. This brings the total number of lawsuits alleging sexual abuse at New Jersey state, county, and private juvenile facilities to nearly 500, including over 300 against the State alone.

As detailed in the lawsuits, New Jersey's juvenile system has for generations been an embarrassment for New Jersey, with reports dating back to the 1980s detailing the horrific conditions at state-run facilities like the New Jersey Training School at Jamesburg.

The suits filed by Levy Konigsberg attorneys Jerome Block and Clark Binkley were brought under New Jersey's Child Sexual Abuse Act ("CSAA"), a 2019 law that expanded the statute of limitations for filing civil lawsuits in cases of child sexual abuse. Most of the survivors seeking justice in these lawsuits were abused many years ago, some as far back as the 1980s, suffering in silence until their claims were finally made possible by the CSAA.

Last year, the Supreme Court of New Jersey established a multicounty litigation program to organize the growing number of cases involving sexual abuse at juvenile detention centers owned and operated by the State. The hundreds of cases against the State are now being litigated in Middlesex County, where the State's most notorious detention center, the New Jersey Training School, is located.
