Chicago rental app arrives on Google Play ahead of schedule, in time for the late-summer leasing rush

CHICAGO, Aug. 4, 2026 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Domu, the rental marketplace built exclusively for Chicago, released its Android app on Google Play on July 29, months earlier than the company had planned. Android was always on the roadmap. Then the iOS app launched on April 9 and drew thousands of immediate downloads, enough to convince the team to pull the timeline forward and ship before the summer ended.

The urgency was seasonal as much as strategic. Chicago's leasing calendar peaks in late summer, when September move-ins drive the year's heaviest search volume. Waiting until fall would have left Android renters, a significant share of the U.S. smartphone market, searching from a browser through the busiest weeks of the year while iOS users had an app.

Domu's inventory has grown from roughly 900 listings in winter 2024 to more than 4,000 today. Each one is reviewed by a person before it goes live, a practice the company has kept even as national platforms have automated it away.

Odzic said the app is a starting point rather than a finish line. Domu is developing free renter tools, including a neighborhood-comparison map for rent prices across the city, and is working to expand listings into the suburbs.
